The 17-year-old suspect in the Grand Theft Auto 6 hacking case has pled not guilty to computer misuse, though has pled guilty to breaching the conditions of their bail.


In a statement given to Eurogamer, the City of London Police’s Cyber Crime Unit’s detective inspector Michael O’Sullivan shared “The 17-year-old who appeared at Highbury Corner Youth Court on 24 September has pleaded guilty to breaching his bail conditions and not guilty to computer misuse.” The teen is now being held in a youth detention centre.

The individual is believed to be a member of Lapsus$, the hacking group known for targeting high-profile companies like Uber and Microsoft. Rockstar Games may have fallen victim to this individual, with over an hour of early development Grand Theft Auto 6 footage leaking online. At this time, it’s not confirmed if the teen has been arrested in connection with the Grand Theft Auto 6 leak or a different cybercrime.

Rockstar Games released a statement on the leak, acknowledging a “network intrusion” and expressing the company’s disappointment at the manner in which GTA 6 footage had been shared. However, the company affirmed that development would be continuing as planned on the game.

Rockstar’s statement read “We recently suffered a network intrusion in which an unauthorised third party illegally accessed and downloaded confidential information from our systems, including early development footage for the next Grand Theft Auto.” The statement continued “Our work on the next Grand Theft Auto game will continue as planned, and we remain as committed as ever to delivering an experience to you, our players, that truly exceeds your expectations.”

This may not have been the first time the suspect has been arrested on cybercrime charges, they are believed to be one of several arrested earlier this year under suspicion of hacking Microsoft and other companies.
