Google will be releasing a self-serve Bluetooth tool for Stadia controllers in the coming days, the company has confirmed. The tool will allow players to enable Bluetooth functionality on Google Stadia controllers, ultimately giving owners the freedom to use the controller on other devices.
The news comes just less than a week before Google Stadia is set to be shut down. Google announced back in September of 2022 that the platform would “winding down” its services due to the technology not gaining the traction that the company had anticipated. All owners of Google Stadia should now have been issued with a full refund, but for those wanting to continue to use their controller, a new self-serve tool will be released next week.
Taking to the official Google Stadia Twitter account, the company said, “next week we’ll be releasing a self-serve tool to enable Bluetooth connections on your Stadia Controller.” Google went on to state that more details on the self-serve tool would be shared upon its release, which is expected to be before the platform is shut down on January 18th.
Ever since Google confirmed the closure of Stadia, developers and publishers have been scrambling to enable some form of cross-progression between platforms. As Google would only be refunding hardware and software purchases through the Google Store, many players were left wondering what would become of their game progress.
Ubisoft was just one publisher that recently confirmed all purchased Ubisoft titles on Google Stadia would be transferred to PC via Ubisoft Connect for no additional charge. Rockstar Games also made an exception due to the unforeseen circumstances, allowing players to transfer their Red Dead Redemption 2 saves to another platform.
In a final farewell, Google has released one final game for the Stadia, and it’s completely free-to-play. More on that story is at the link below.
