God of War Ragnarok is finally available, and it’s truly a delight to play. Between the rich characters, captivating landscapes, and a narrative you won’t soon forget, it’s no wonder that it has received such incredible reviews. While all of those other elements make the game great, we can’t overlook the remarkable boss fights spread throughout this triumphant title.
Blending both challenge and fun, the boss fights in this game are a standout success. This guide is about Odin’s Captain, Fiske. This boss can cause players a lot of grief, but we’re here to provide you with information that should help you overcome the hurdles of this boss fight.
Bifrost Blues
Fiske’s oversized scythe deals Bifrost damage, which can be a major problem. On the first hit, Bifrost will deal damage which slowly recovers unless you’re hit again, at which point you will lose all of that health. Fiske also has an area of effect attack where he slams down his scythe and deals Bifrost damage to anything around him.
This attack can’t be blocked or interrupted, so your only option is to evade it. For this reason, you’ll want to try to engage Fiske in an open area. If you’re fighting in tight quarters, you won’t be able to get out of the way fast enough.
Ringed Attacks
While many of Fiske’s normal attacks can be blocked or parried, you’ll want to pay special attention to his ringed attacks. When you see the blue ring, this means a particularly devastating attack is on the way. Double tap L1 to use your shield to interrupt this attack. If you see a yellow ring, you want to parry or get out of the way. Blocking won’t be enough, as yellow-ringed attacks break your block and leave you open to follow-up attacks.
When you see the red ring, it’s time to back off and get out of the way. These attacks will shred any of your defenses and deal serious damage. Too many hits from these, and you’ll find yourself on your back and starting the fight again.
Be Aggressive
Fiske’s scythe, area attack, and Bifrost damage make him a major threat. It pays to be as aggressive as possible. If possible, build up the flame status effect on Fiske to deal extra damage over time. Once you’ve lit him on fire, switch to the Leviathan Axe to deal some extra frost damage.
Spartan Rage
If you happen to have Spartan Rage available, it could be extremely useful in this fight. Rage will let you deal some damage while also healing with each hit. Once you deal enough damage to Fiske, he will become dazed, and you’ll have the opportunity to run up and perform an R3 attack.
Runic Attacks
In an effort to get out as much damage as quickly as possible, be sure to swap weapons and use all of your available runic attacks. These should help you deal some nice damage and build up status effects.
