Vanaheim is one of the largest areas in God of War Ragnarok. When you first reach Vanaheim, you’ll spend your time exploring the forests and rivers surrounding Freyr’s Camp. But as you progress through the game, you’ll later unlock a whole other section of the map – The Crater.
Once you reach this area, you’ll quickly realize that there are a lot of new things to discover, and side quests to complete. In this guide, we’ll walk you through how to complete The Stein favor.
Welcome To The Jungle
The area in the southwest of The Crater is called The Jungle. When you first reach this area, the once-flowing rivers are now dried-up canyons. To restore water to the area, you’ll first need to complete the favor – Return of the River. This will also need to be done in order for you to be able to complete The Stein favor, so make sure you restore the river first.
From the Jungle Entrance Mystic Gateway, make your way southwest toward the dam. If you have already restored the rivers, you can just hop in the boat next to the gateway, head down the river, and dock your boat in front of the dam. If you haven’t restored the rivers, then follow the path southwest from the gateway and drop into the area with the purple poison totem. Freeze the totem and then climb up the wall on the far end of the area.
Once above the wall, you should be able to see the dam in the distance. Continue making your way toward it, pass the tunnel next to the two Gulons (dog-like enemies) you fight, and instead jump up the ledge. Once at the top, you will see an elevator (above image on the right). Take the elevator up to reach the top of the dam.
Restore The River
Once at the top, crawl through the crack in the wall to reach the area where you’ll pick up the mission. If this is your first time in this area, there is a Dreki you can battle, but you can also save them for later if you prefer. After crawling through the crack, head left, and you’ll find the spirit next to the edge of the water. Talk to them to start the quest.
If you haven’t yet restored the water to the area, you’ll need to do that before you leave. As you head back toward the crack you crawled through, you’ll notice red vines that have grown over some gears. Using your Sigil arrows and Chaos Blades, burn the vines and free the gears. Then use the wheel to open the reservoir gates to free the water. After doing so, the water will fill the previously dried-up canyons, giving you access to many new areas throughout The Crater.
Return To The Plains
Head back down the elevator and hop in the boat by the edge of the dock. Take the boat down the river to the Jungle Entrance Mystic Gateway. Go through the Gateway and navigate to the Western Plains Mystic Gateway. Once you reach The Plains, you’ll be right next to an altar. If it is not already nighttime, go ahead and change it to night. This will be important for accessing the next area.
There are two ways to access the area where you’ll complete this mission. First, from the Western Plains Mystic Gateway, drop down on the eastern side of the platform. Immediately turn around to your right, and you’ll see a tunnel you can go through. Follow that until it lets out into an area that has a pond with a tree in the center of it (see map image above). If there is a gate blocking you from accessing this area, then retrace your steps to where you dropped down from, and hop in the nearest boat.
Grab The Stein
Once in the boat, follow the river heading southwest at the bottom of The Plains area of the map until you reach the westernmost dock. Hop off here and continue forward until you drop down into the area with the pond. To your right, you’ll see the gate that was previously blocking you. Go ahead and lift that, so you can more easily access this area later on.
In this area, you’ll find the stein in the northeast, just above where you opened the gate. Pick up the stein and the spirit will reappear, completing the mission.
