Ghost Hunting RPG ‘Banishers’ Announced By Life Is Strange Developers

During last night’s Game Awards ceremony, Focus Entertainment and Don’t Nod announced a new collaboration for a brand-new project, Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden. The narrative action-RPG will launch for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC by the end of 2023.

Both studios believe that Banishers is “one of the most ambitious projects in the history of both the publishers and the studio”. Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden will see players take the role of “two proficient ghost hunters and lovers, faced with impossible choices and their dramatic consequences for the living… and the dead”, according to the announcement post on Steam.

Banishers is set in the fictional location of New Eden in 1965, and follows the story of Antea Duarte and Red mac Raith, who are both lovers and ‘banishers’. As ghost hunters, the pair have vowed to protect the living from the threat of lingering ghosts and specters. But, following a disastrous last mission, Antea is fatally wounded, becoming one of the spirits she loathes. The pair then set out to search for a way to liberate Antea from her new plight.

Following the announcement, Managing Director for Focus Entertainment, John Bert, said the studio is “so excited to finally lift the veil on Banishers, a project born from our long-standing partnership with DON’T NOD”. Bert continues by saying, “The studio has an unmatched talent for creating worlds that are as unique as they are immersive. They are amazing storytellers who know how to truly enhance an efficient, innovative gameplay with narrative and emotions. That’s exactly what they are doing with Banishers. It’s a very ambitious project, which is sure to receive a very warm welcome from players all around the world”.

A release date for the title was not set by the studios, but Focus Entertainment does state that it will launch by the end of 2023 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The game is now available to wishlist on Steam, should players want to stay up to date on any further announcements related to Banisher: Ghosts of New Eden.
