The controversial actor will no longer be voicing Tighnari.
Genshin Impact has announced via Twitter that Elliot Gindi, the English voice actor for Tighnari who faced sexual misconduct allegations earlier this week, will no longer be voicing the character due to a breach of contract. The development team is now in discussion with the voice recording agency to replace Elliot Gindi with future updates.
HoYoverse was working with external partners for an urgent solution, and the studio announced today that it’s communicating with the voice recording agency regarding matters of casting. “After communications with the voice recording agency, we hereby confirm that Elliot Gindi, the English voice actor for Tighnari will no longer be voicing the character in subsequent versions due to a breach of contract,” HoYoverse said about the controversy surrounding Elliot Gindi.
The studio also said it’s now in contact with the agency regarding casting re-recording: “At present, we are communicating with the voice recording agency regarding matters of casting and re-recording. We will gradually replace Tighnari’s existing in-game voice lines, and issue these updates in the corresponding announcements.”
The controversy began last week when one of Gindi’s Twitch moderators shared a document featuring explicit content related to the voice actor. The document contained alleged chat logs and screenshots of Gindi’s sexual misconduct with fans, some of whom were allegedly underage at the time of contact with him. He is accused of streaming in his underwear and requesting sexual photos and videos from fans.
Shortly after, Gindi shared an apology via Twitter that confirms his behavior and some of the allegations against him. He outlined that he didn’t pursue a sexual relationship with underage fans, denying the claims of transphobia and that the underwear streams were meant to be sexual. Gindi also denied knowledge that the fans in question were minors. After his fellow voice actors publicly stated their condemnation and outrage at Gindi’s behavior, he left social media with no indication that he would return.
It’s currently unknown who will replace Elliot Gindi as the voice of Tighnari.
