Furi Demake dishes up the first fight in 2D and for free on Steam

As if I really needed an excuse to play more Furi. But if you were looking for one, The Game Bakers have provided today. The developer has released Furi Demake – The Chain, a fully 2D recreation of the first boss battle, for free on Steam.

To reiterate, Furi Demake – The Chain is only comprised of the first boss battle against the eponymous ‘The Chain’, a jailer who acts as your first brick wall of many. The original game had 10 of said walls to smack your face into until their demise. Though, at least one kind of crumpled like a $5 camping chair.

Furi Demake is a bite-sized boss fight free on Steam

The Chain, however, did not crumple. Even though he was the “tutorial boss,” it was a multi-stage fight against a monster who wanted you dead. He often got his wish. Furi Demake allows you to relive that fight in 2D with gorgeous 8-bit pixel art. The Game Bakers note that completing the demake should take roughly 10-30 minutes, but longer if you choose the super-tough Furier difficulty (or if you’re gunning for an S rank).

Here are the deets, courtesy of the Steam page:

  • A love letter to 8-bit games: we love retro games and wanted this demake to feel authentic! It’s the Furi experience, agile and intense, reimagined in retro style. The simple controls with only three action buttons, the old-school pixel art and the catchy music from ODD will bring you back to the 90’s!
  • A gift to Furi‘s community: We reimagined Furi‘s first boss fight as a way to thank players for their ongoing support. If this is your first time hearing about Furi, head to Furi’s page and check it out!
  • A collaboration with Sylph: We were impressed with Sylph’s work as a solo dev and asked him to create this demake of Furi‘s first boss fight. Check out his other games!

Furi Demake – The Chain was made as a collab project between The Game Bakers and solo indie developer Sylph. The latter has released a few games on Steam, all sitting at ‘Positive’ rank and above. The handful of reviews for the demake are currently singing its praises, so 3D or not, fans likely won’t finish it feeling disappointed.

I definitely plan on giving this a go soon. It’s been a minute since I broke my fingers playing Furi, and I can use a good humbling.
