Freddie Flintoff ‘left in agony for 45 minutes’ following horror crash | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV

Freddie Flintoff suffered facial and jaw injuries and broke a rib in his crash which happened in December while filming a stunt for Top Gear at Dunsfold Park Aerodrome in Surrey.

The BBC is now being accused of “failing” to look after the ex-cricketer after he was reportedly not wearing a helmet at the time of the incident.

His near-fatal crash happened in a three-wheeled 130mph Morgan Super 3, with The Sun reporting a stretcher couldn’t be found for Freddie.

The report compiled by the newspaper also claims the car had no airbag.

The BBC has conducted a health and safety review into Freddie’s terrifying crash but it has not published the findings.

A source told The Sun this week: “How this could have been allowed to happen on a notoriously high-octane show like Top Gear, which is famed for its dangerous stunts, is beyond bewildering.”

They claimed: “The accident itself was far worse than anyone really realises – it’s hard to put into words, really; what he went through is simply unimaginable.

“But essentially the car turned over at speed, and Freddie – who also broke some ribs – understandably is traumatised by the whole thing.”

A BBC spokesperson told Express.co.uk they won’t be commenting on The Sun’s report and reissued their statement from March.

It read: “In March we concluded our investigation into the accident at the Top Gear Test Track in Surrey, which regrettably injured presenter Freddie Flintoff.

“We have sincerely apologised to Freddie and continue to support him with his recovery. A health and safety review of the show is underway, in line with our procedures.”

The insider also said Freddie’s been “incredibly brave” and is “thankfully getting stronger” as he takes things “week by week”.

In April, the BBC’s chief content officer Charlotte Moore confirmed filming for the 34th series of Top Gear had been cancelled.

“My priority at the moment is supporting Freddie through his recovery so I think it would be really inappropriate for us to resume filming now,” she said at the time.

Freddie is yet to break his silence on the incident and has not been on social media since December 10, three days before the accident.

Freddie also had a crash in 2019 driving a three-wheel cycle car but he walked away from the scene without any serious injuries.
