Epic Games has confirmed the long-awaited Unreal Editor for Fortnite will be released on Wednesday, March 22nd. The editor is now available for players to add to their wishlist, exclusively on the Epic Games Store.
In the build-up to the announcement, the Fortnite community had dubbed the new Unreal Editor as “Creative 2.0.” The new application was expected to build upon the huge success of Fortnite’s original creative mode, allowing users to create more in-depth content via Epic Games’ own Unreal Engine 5.
Originally slated for release last year, Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney confirmed at the start of this year that the project had been delayed into March. Now, halfway through the month, Epic has finally confirmed that the release date for the new Unreal Editor is set for next week.

With many of Unreal Engine 5’s powerful tools and workflows at your fingertips, including custom asset import, modeling, materials and VFX, Sequencer and Control Rig, you’ll have a whole new world of options for producing and publishing games and experiences for Fortnite that can be enjoyed by millions of players.”
Unlike Fortnite’s original creative mode, the new Unreal Editor will be exclusive to PC users. The application will, however, work side-by-side with the existing toolset found in Fortnite creative, allowing content creators to work together across PC and consoles to develop and test islands in real time.
The description of the program also confirms that the Unreal Editor will be launching in beta. “The Beta provides creators with an early version of UEFN that will evolve in line with their feedback,” Epic states. The description then goes on to explain that the beta version of Unreal Editor will allow users to:
