Spellcraft Challenges upgrade your stats for specific spells, and they unlock abilities or skills from using these spells. The challenges require you to perform specific actions a certain amount of times. These tasks can be as simple as using a spell several times or using a spell for a certain time limit on a target. An example of a skill the challenges reward you with would be restoring your stamina upon activation of a spell each time you use it.

To take on Spellcraft Challenges, go to a Pilgrim’s Refuge or Guild Tower. You can fast travel to different Pilgrim’s Refuges, so it will be convenient to visit as many as you can if you want to keep conveniently optimizing your spells. You can only accept three challenges at a time.

Forspoken Spellcraft Tutorial pops up on the screen

The Magic category in your main menu will let you switch the text description windows over to “Spellcraft,” when hovering above a spell in the Magic Tree. You can easily see which moves have active challenges going on by looking out for an additional symbol hovering the spell. If you’ve picked up a Spellcraft Challenge for that spell, you will be able to see the Spellcraft enhancements you’re able to receive if you complete the requirement, as well as the remaining progress you need to finish completing the upgrade.

Spellcraft Challenges that are completed will show the enhancements you will get for a spell, and the menu will let you hold down the upgrade button to level up the technique. Any spells you convert back to Mana will save your progress on an ongoing challenge but will cancel the Spellcraft Challenge from your log. You will need to return to a Spellcraft Challenge bookcase, in order to upgrade a spell you have already completed the challenge for.

Upgrading Spells

You might find that converting your spells back to Mana is useful for completing different challenges. Due to the nature of how Frey casts her spells, using each different level of a spell as she charges up to the final one, it can be difficult to accurately use the correct level of a spell for a Spellcraft Challenge requirement. Hover over the spell you want to downgrade and hold the button to convert it back to Mana. Just make sure you are picking the correct level of a spell that you accepted a Spellcraft Challenge for.

Upgrading each level of all of Frey’s spells will allow your character to be more effective, should you choose to cast weaker spells at a quicker rate. Spellcraft Challenges will also appear on your left-hand top corner of the screen upon working on them, to let you know that you are progressing. The log on your screen will also tell you when you can open up the Magic menu to apply an upgrade.

Spellcraft Challenges give you the freedom to make your character stronger at any moment in the game, and they let you get more stat increases and ability usage out of the various abilities Frey has access to, like movement, crafting, and combat.
