First Trailer For Next Stephen King Movie Coming This Weekend

Add another movie to author Stephen King’s prolific filmography, as he revealed the first trailer for The Boogeyman will appear during the NFC Championship game this weekend. The film will be based on a short story that King wrote in the 1970s.

King revealed the premiere date–Sunday, January 29–for The Boogeyman trailer on Twitter. The author added it will air at some point during the NFL matchup between the Philadelphia Eagles versus the San Francisco 49ers on Fox. The game starts at 3 PM ET/noon PT.

The Boogeyman is based off of King’s short story from 1973, which first appeared in a magazine titled Cavalier. The author then put it in his 1978 collection called Night Shift. It’s about an evil presence following and murdering a father’s young children.

The film adaptation will apparently put the focus on a 16-year-old girl and her younger sister. Host filmmaker Rob Savage is directing The Boogeyman, which was planned for Hulu but will now release in theaters, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The horror film is planned to premiere June 2. The Boogeyman will star Madison Hu, Vivien Lyra Blair, David Dastmalchian, Chris Messina, Sophie Thatcher, and Marin Ireland.

As for King, he has other prominent movie and TV adaptations in development for his work. For instance, his recent book Fairy Tale already has a movie deal with director Paul Greengrass, known for the Bourne series and Captain Phillips. And The Haunting of Hill House’s Mike Flanagan is taking a crack at The Dark Tower.
