First Knuckles trailer looks awesome, and drops series release date

We’ve known for just about two years now that a Knuckles TV series was on the way. Today, we get our first taste of what to expect when the show drops on April 26.

If you enjoyed Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic the Hedgehog 2, it looks like we’re in store for more of the same. Just with more Knuckles, still played by Idris Elba, which is great! This first Knuckles trailer is meaty with a duration of about two-and-a-half minutes. It sets the tone for the Paramount Plus series as we see some of the Echidna’s purpose, villains, and more.

Just the other day we saw our first Sonic the Hedgehog 3 teaser drop, which also confirmed the return of Jim Carrey’s Dr. Robotnik. In this first Knuckles trailer, we see a new villain that seems like a solid foil for to the great Echidna Warrior.

This unnamed villain is played by Rory McCann. The actor is perhaps best known for portraying the massive fan-favorite Sandor Clegane, also known as The Hound, in HBO’s Game of Thrones.

McCann’s character and his underlings have access to Knuckles’ powers in the streaming series. This seemingly sets up equally powered battles between the opposing factions.

What has Knuckles been up to?

As for Knuckles’ motivations, he appears to have hit a bit of a slump following the Sonic 2 movie. This series takes place directly after the sequel but before the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 3. Knuckles finally finds purpose in training a new warrior though. That student? Tom Wachowski’s Deputy of Green Hills, Wade Whipple.

There’s likely to be plenty of buddy cop-esque comedy between Knuckles and Wade throughout the six-episode limited series. The short episode count may have been a great decision for the show because it looks fantastic quality-wise. We’ll see how this new chapter of the Sonic cinematic universe turns out when Knuckles begins streaming via Paramount Plus on April 26.
