This is where Leif, The Emblem of Genealogy, aka the jack of all trades, comes in handy. But even with all of his versatility, you’ll still need a good strategy if you want to come out on top. Here’s how to maximize his potential, and make sure you are victorious in every battle.

Bond Effects And Abilities

Leif is an interesting character in that his bond effects influence all weapon types, with the exception being magic tomes. As you continue to raise his bond levels, you will gain proficiencies in the following order: axes, bows, knives, staves, lances, and finally swords. These proficiencies are needed for your character to be able to choose different classes, which ultimately make a big difference in their play style regardless of which Emblem they may or may not have equipped. This means that Leif is a great Emblem to bond with to unlock as many class opportunities as possible for your character of choice.

Outside his versatility with weapon proficiencies, he also has some bond effects that raise the Build skill, which essentially affects how your character is impacted by using heavy weapons. His Arms Shield and Vantage skills also give battle advantages that help you take less damage and attack first when your health is low. His most powerful passive skill is his Adaptable bond effect. This allows your unit to counter with the best possible weapon when the enemy initiates the attack, making it so you always have the best advantage over the enemy’s weapon type.

In addition to the passive skills, Leif has a unique Engage Attack called Quadruple Hit. This move hits the enemy once with a sword, lance, axe, and bow, making sure that at least one of them hit the enemy’s weakness and does the most damage possible. Leif also has some great Engage Weapons like the Killer Axe which has a high critical rate, and his Master Lance which lets you attack twice when initiating combat, and can strike close or at range.

Best Pairings

Alear talks to Leif in the cafe terrace

Because Leif is truly a jack of all trades, he pairs well with just about any character you can choose. With his initial proficiency towards axes, and his first Engage Weapon being the Killer Axe, you’ll probably have a better time initially pairing him with a fellow axe wielder like Vander or Rosado. But after getting a feel for his abilities, you’ll soon see that he can work well with anyone, so long as they are not a magic user that attacks with tomes.

Since Leif is so versatile, he is also one of the least interesting and specialized Emblems at your disposal. By the time you get access to him, you’ll have several other Emblems at your side, and you may just find it’s best to pair him with one of your units that makes the cut each time you go into battle but is likely not one of your top five. If you’re not sure who to pair him with, you should prioritize someone who uses a heavy sword or axe as his buff to the Build stat will help them be less clunky and avoid getting hit multiple times before they can make a move. Regardless of who you choose to pair him with, he’ll be an asset in lending some of his strength to each battle.
