Tales are told throughout the Fire Emblem community of a money-grubbing merchant who seems to have the ability to travel between dimensions. Her striking red hair seems ever-present in the great conflicts across the world. In Fire Emblem: Engage, she takes the form of Anna, a fledgling salesman separated from her family. Since other characters fill the role of the shopkeeper, Anna takes to the battlefield to assist Alear in their journey to defeat Sombron.
Some characters in Engage require creativity from the player to make the most out of their abilities, none more so than Anna. In the following guide, you’ll see why her unique talents can confuse and befuddle new players and learn how to equip the young merchant to defeat the strongest of foes.
The first thing you may notice when looking over Anna’s growth rates is how little her base class seems to fit her. She possesses the highest Magic growth in the game, at 50%, yet her base class is Axe Fighter. Furthermore, her Strength is a pitiful 15%, with the class bonus only helping her up to 35%. While there are plenty of options to build Anna, the logical conclusion is that you should get as much as possible out of her insane Magic growth, supported by her excellent Speed and Dexterity. Finally, you will want to support her Luck stat where possible, as her personal skill, Make a Killing, grants 500 gold after a kill, with a chance to occur based on her Luck.
Base | Axe Fighter | |
---|---|---|
Max HP | 55% | +25% |
Strength | 15% | +20% |
Magic | 50% | +0% |
Dexterity | 50% | +5% |
Speed | 50% | +10% |
Defense | 20% | +5% |
Resistance | 35% | +0% |
Luck | 45% | +0% |
Build | 5% | +5% |
While growth rates are definitely important, so are base stats. While Anna’s Magic growth is phenomenal, her base Magic is only 2, compared to a base Strength of 10. Therefore, Anna will definitely need some work to become the powerhouse she is meant to be. Luckily, many early-game enemies have quite low Resistance, so a quick swap to Mage (after leveling your bond with Celica or Micaiah) will allow her to grab the extra growths provided while still being able to take on many enemies with her high speed.
Following this, you can promote her to a Sage or Mage Knight to continue making use of powerful tomes. The choice between the two will likely depend on your army’s needs and whether you’d prefer another healer or cavalry unit. On the other hand, you can take a very different approach when building Anna. Since her Magic is so naturally high, you may prefer to focus on boosting her strength to build a hybrid unit. If you decide to go this route, a good end-point would be Bow Knight (preferably using swords). This build will focus on her amazing Dexterity and Speed growth while still allowing her to utilize weapons that scale off of her Magic.
If utilizing Anna in a Magic-focused class, the weapon choices will be quite straightforward. Equip her with the strongest version of Thunder and Fire magic you have available, with a Wind tome if you have the inventory space. After promotion, she will add either healing staves or a Levin Sword or Flame Lance to her arsenal. Finally, if you choose to go the Bow Knight route, a Radiant Bow will become her strongest weapon by far. Due to her impressive dexterity, she can also make use of the Killing class of weapons for frequent critical strikes.
As a Magic class, Anna will prefer to engage with Celica or Micaiah. Micaiah is nice for a Mage Knight to build, as she grants the use of staves regardless of class and provides extra staff range when engaged. Celica is a nice pairing with a Sage build, shoring up the mediocre mobility the class possesses with the Warp Ragnarök skill. On the other side of the build paths, a Bow Knight would utilize Lyn’s ring fantastically. It is also worth mentioning that if you have the DLC unlocked, Tiki’s bracelet provides useful bonuses for Anna, regardless of class.
Anna will want to focus on offensive and Speed boosting skills, as well as anything that increases luck to give you a better chance at snagging gold after combat. As noted above, the DLC Tiki’s skills work wonders here.
