Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth’s PS5 Exclusivity Window Ends 3 Months After Launch

As has been the case with all mainline Final Fantasy games in recent years, the upcoming Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is going to be exclusive to PlayStation at launch, though its exclusivity window for Sony’s console won’t last as long as it has done for the last couple of Final Fantasy games.

Square Enix unveiled a new trailer for the action RPG at yesterday’s State of Play presentation, and in the version of the trailer that’s been uploaded by the official Final Fantasy YouTube channel, a panel confirms towards the end that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth’s PS5 exclusivity window will end on May 29, just three months after launch.

In comparison, the original Final Fantasy 7 Remake’s exclusivity window lasted a year, while its expanded re-release for PS5, Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade, had a 6-month long exclusivity window. Meanwhile, Final Fantasy 16, which launched exclusively for PS5 in June, also has a 6-month long exclusivity period with PS5.

Does this mean that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will launch for other platforms as soon as its PS5 exclusivity window is up? Well, not necessarily. For instance, neither FF7 Remake nor Intergrade have come to Xbox consoles, even though their exclusivity periods with PlayStation are over. That said, it does mean that Rebirth has a good chance of coming to PC (at the very least) much closer to its original launch than its predecessor did.

In the wake of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth’s newest showing, Square Enix has also revealed plenty of additional new details on the game, including how much content it will offer, its new Synergy Moves combat mechanic, new and returning Summons, how large its world map will be, and more.

The publisher has also confirmed that Final Fantasy 7 Remake has surpassed 7 million units in worldwide shipments and digital sales across all platforms since its original launch in April 2020.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth launches for PS5 on February 29, 2024.
