Mainline Final Fantasy games have turned back the clock and gone back to being exclusive to PlayStation consoles, but it looks like that might be about to change soon. Recent rumours claimed that Square Enix was in discussions with Microsoft to bring Final Fantasy 7 Remake to Xbox consoles, and it looks like Final Fantasy 16 is following suit.
That’s as per XboxEra co-founder Nick Baker, who claimed in a recent episode of the Infinite Podcast that an Xbox port of Final Fantasy 16 is in the works, though the insider did not have details on when the action RPG will launch for Microsoft’s platform.
Final Fantasy 16 launched last year as a PS5 exclusive, though a PC version of the game is also in development, while its second expansion, The Rising Tide, is also due out this year. Whether the game’s Xbox release will come after all of that or be aligned with one of those milestones remains to be seen- assuming, of course, that the port is indeed in the works.
It’s worth noting that Square Enix said in July that it would be “working closely” with Microsoft in order to bring more of its games to Xbox consoles. Final Fantasy 14 is set to launch for Xbox Series X/S this Spring, while Visions of Mana will launch in the Summer.
