FIFA 23’s Penalty Accuracy Reduced With First Live Tuning Patch

FIFA 23 is out for less than a week, and recently, EA Sports shared the patch notes for the first Live Tuning patch, which applies balance changes and gameplay adjustments through the servers without requiring players to download an update.

The first Live Tuning patch is now live across all platforms, and it delivers a reduced penalty accuracy for the time that the penalty ring is red or yellow. This one was already a big problem in the game as players were able to easily score penalties even with a red ring, which caused many users to criticize the unfair penalty system in FIFA 23. With this change, the possibility of scoring penalties with red or yellow accuracy is lower than before.

Moreover, the new Live Tuning patch adjusted some referee parameters. As of now, you can expect referees to award yellow cards more often for slide tackles and react less often to arm-related collisions. Below, you can check out the full patch notes for this Live Tuning update:

  • Reduced the accuracy of Penalty Kicks taken when the Composure Ring is yellow or red.
  • Increased Technical Dribbling animation speed for lower-rated dribblers.
    • This change specifically impacts players whose dribbling-related Attributes are below 90.
  • Adjusted referees to be less likely to call fouls for arm-related collisions.
  • Adjusted referees to be more likely to award yellow cards for fouls committed by Hard Slide Tackles.

Before applying the changes above, EA Sports launched the first Title Update on PC yesterday, which fixes a number of errors that players used to face in the earlier days of launch on PC. It is unlikely to see a similar update launching for consoles as most of those errors were only reported by PC players. The file size of the update is around 1 GB.

The PC version of the game has not been running as smooth as console versions since launch, as multiple players have reported frame-drop issues and problems with the game’s anti-cheat system that prevents the game from launching on PC.

EA Sports has promised to resolve the PC issues with the future update. You can take a look at the FIFA 23 Trello page to check out the latest known issues.
