According to Square, it’s much more than a simple remaster.

Square Enix has released a new trailer for “Crisis Core Final Fantasy VII Reunion” to introduce the new features only present in this updated version and emphasize that it is “More than just a Remaster” as per the title of the video.

The new ‘Reunion’ version of FFVII Crisis Core — originally released for PSP — will include new music arrangements by the original composer Takeharu Ishimoto, updated graphics, new summon cinematics, and an updated combat system similar to the one used in FF7 Remake. The game will also have full voice acting in English and Japanese, and previously unvoiced scenes will be voiced for the first time, according to a previous tweet from the FFVII official account.

Along with the trailer, Square Enix revealed how the game will run on each of its platforms. From the published list, it appears the game will be fixed at 30 FPS on all consoles except for the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, where it will be running on 60 FPS. Steam will allow the player to run the game at 120 FPS, hardware depending. The display resolution is a standard 1920 X 1080 on last-gen consoles, and 3840 x 2160 for current-gen consoles. As for the Switch, the resolution will be no more than 1280 X 720 for both handheld and docked modes.

A couple of notes to consider in the performance report is that Crisis Core FFVII Reunion is set to run at 30 FPS on release, but a day one patch will raise this to 60 FPS. The Steam version will include additional display options such as vsync, texture quality, shadow quality, anti-aliasing and ambient occlusion. The game will also contain reworked 3D models for all the characters and backgrounds and will tell the story of Zack Fair, a very important character who will play a big part in the events of the FF7 remake sequel, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.
