Fastest way to complete the Climbing the Mountaintop quest in Destiny 2: Into the Light

It doesn’t have to be a very steep incline. Here is the fastest way to complete the Climbing the Mountaintop quest in Destiny 2: Into the Light.

Destiny 2: Fastest way to complete the Climbing the Mountaintop quest

Week 2 of Into the Light is live now in Destiny 2, meaning that there are now new open blue shield doors in the Hall of Champions, but most importantly, new Brave weapon quests. One of those new weapons is The Mountaintop, a Breech-Loaded Grenade Launcher originally from the Forsaken DLC. You can identify this specific type of Grenade Launcher by its use of Special Ammo, and to beat its specific quest, you will need to complete one of the following objectives:

  • Rapidly defeat combatants using Breech-Loaded Grenade Launchers anywhere in the system. Bonus progress for rapid final blows in Onslaught.
  • Defeat Guardians using Grenade Launchers.

Let’s get this out of the way, out of the two new quests, progressing the Climbing the Mountaintop will be considerably slower. For that same reason, I strongly recommend that you focus on playing Onslaught given the bonus progression and enemy potential enemy density. However, there are some ways you can further optimize it by doing a simple thing: picking the right map.

Play Onslaught in Mothyards

While playing in Midtown would be the logical choice given its close-quartered nature, allowing your Grenade Launcher shots to do a considerable amount of damage, what Mothyards possesses in its favor makes it the perfect location to spam your Grenades and collect The Mountaintop: verticality and openness.

Yes, these same reasons are what makes it the best map to play Onslaught in and hopefully get to the 50-Wave mark, but why would it make sense for AoE damage? Well, thanks to your ability to gain high vantage points and obvious cues on where the enemies will spawn – you see the giant ships arriving on the map – you can easily pinpoint specific locations on where to shoot your Breech-Loaded Grenade Launchers. And given the Tower Defense nature of Onslaught in which enemies traverse through a pre-determined path, you can easily spam your shots to continuously deliver damage, amassing kills.

Personally, I used the Witherhoard Exotic Grenade Launcher – which is arguably one of the best Exotics in the game – to deal Blight damage to all incoming mobs. You can, however, use other Breech-Loaded Grenades Launchers like the Forbearance, Harsh Language, or Ignition Code and they will work just as well. Remember: predict enemy paths and continue spamming those Grenades!
