A bunch of Microsoft documents that were supposed to be redacted were recently accidentally published online in unredacted form, leaking details on everything from Microsoft’s plans for a cloud-infused next-gen console, a new Xbox controller with haptic feedback, an Xbox Series X mid-gen refresh, and more. As part of that same leak, updated sales numbers for a number of Bethesda titles have also emerged (via ResetEra).

Most notable among them is Fallout 4. Since Bethesda announced all the way back in 2015 that the RPG had shipped 12 million copies worldwide on the day of its release, there have been no further updates on its sales, however, as per Microsoft’s newly-leaked documents, Fallout 4 had shipped roughly 25 million units as of 2020 (which means that number’s likely much higher at this point in time).

Interestingly, the document also mentions that in 2020, The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim had shipped roughly 40 million units. Earlier this year, director Todd Howard revealed that Skyrim had sold over 60 million units worldwide, which means the fantasy RPG sold an additional 20 million units in the space of about three years.

In the document, Microsoft also mentions that it’s expecting Fallout 5 to also ship about 25 million units, similar to its predecessor. It’s been previously confirmed that Fallout 5 will be the next game Bethesda Game Studios focuses on after The Elder Scrolls 6, though given the fact that the latter only recently entered early development and is still over five years away from launch, it’s safe to say that it’ll be a long, long time before the next mainline Fallout game releases.

As part of this giant leak, details have also emerged on a number of unannounced upcoming titles in the works across various Bethesda studios, including a remaster of Fallout 3.
