Fallout 3’s Point Lookout DLC is now a playable mod for Fallout 4

Everything old is new again

Fans of the Fallout series are killing it right now, what with in-game Shakespeare performances and new DLC adventures that are so big they’re practically their own games. Truly the epitome of “if you want something done right, you’ve got to do it yourself,” when Bethesda leaves us in cold radio silence, the fans are here to create the content we wish to see in the world, especially as the studio shifts their focus away from the Fallout series for now.

The newest project to come from the experienced members of the Fallout modding community is a faithful recreation of Fallout 3‘s DLC Point Lookout, now making it playable as DLC for Fallout 4. Originally released as an Xbox-exclusive adventure that was later available on all platforms, Point Lookout adds a mutant-infested island to the game, where players can journey and… go on a psychedelic vision quest? Okay say no more, this sounds awesome.

The Point Lookout mod for Fallout 4 was created by the same team who made the Capital Wasteland mod, an ambitious remaster project that aimed to make the entirety of Fallout 3 fully playable in the series’ fourth entry. Work on the mod is still going strong with over four years in development now, with no sign of an official release date any time soon. At that rate you’re basically making a whole new game from scratch, so timewise that checks out.

It’s not a surprise to me either that this team would tackle some of the Fallout 3 DLC as well — if they’re remastering the rest of the game, I understand why they’d want to hit the DLC too, and I’m sure they wanted something shorter that they could finish relatively quickly. The Capital Wasteland team has also released around 20 other mods, including revamps of smaller features like weapons, companions, and armor.

If you’re new to modding, don’t worry, the Fallout 4: Point Lookout website has instructions on how to download it!
