In September 2022, the franchise celebrated its 25th anniversary with a rather unexpected teaser of the Fallout: Bakersfield mashup concept set on October 2077. Fans hoped the FPS would release soon, given the long wait for Fallout 5 under its developers Bethesda and Obsidian. Unlike the two, developers in this fan project, including Jonasz Osmenda and Alexander Berezin, were true to their words and have now released the first Fallout FPS game.

Osmenda and the team are still testing the waters with this FPS release and welcome your feedback and suggestions as they prepare for future updates.

The game bases its setting on the ghoulified Bakersfield populace who survived radiation and later left their shelters. Those who remained in the shelters formed the city of Necropolis, featured in classic Fallout RPGs. Combat in the new FPS game is like in the RPG with the assets and maps appearing in 3D. Players also have several customization options, VATS, and access to popular regions in Fallout 2, including Redding and Klamath.

Some of the enemies are also characters you’ve seen in Fallout 2, like raiders and geckos and getting into the game will make you feel like playing id Software’s Doom. In fact, the Necropolis is repurposed as a playground akin to that in Doom, offering a neat platform to yield from your hit-and-attack combat expertise.

In the September 2022 teaser, we only saw a rebuild and remade Fallout concept that showed how the game would be as FPS. Today, fans are excited about this ambitious remake that is free to download here. Remember to share your thoughts and suggestions on how the FPS can incorporate even more advanced features and develop into a series.
