Fallen Dynasty Won’t Have Difficulty Modes

During an interview with MP1st, Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty Producer Masaaki Yanawiga stated that the Dark-Souls-inspired action RPG will not have difficulty options when it releases in 2023.

Team Ninja producer, Masaaki Yanwiga, explained why Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty won’t feature an easy mode, contrary to expectations, outlining that the developer team aims to keep the challenge the same, which requires players to find different ways to overcome their foes. Yamawiga-san also claimed in the interview held at TGS 2022 that the upcoming action thriller won’t be an easy game, as players might expect from a souls-like RPG. “We’re really giving players their own ways to be able to tackle all these things, that’s really important to Wo Long’s game design.”

“It’s ‘good’ to have one set difficulty so that everyone has the same experience of overcoming a really intense obstacle and they all have that feeling of achievement like I did it,” Yamawiga-san said. “But the caveat there is giving players all different ways that they can do that. So you could talk to your friends and say ‘hey I beat this boss and this is how I did it’ – you want to talk to people and go online because you really want to have communication with them.”

Masaaki Yanawiga also goes on to say that players will be given as much freedom and agency to experience its open world as they desire with the help of the morale system, which will increase their power as it reaches high ranks during combat. Players can use their morale to choose which enemies to fight, as they can go in a rematch with bosses that they could not defeat before. From what the producer at Team Ninja stated, we can deduce that Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty will not force players to follow a linear flow, known as the best thing Elden Ring has done.

The interview concludes with producer Yamawiga-san revealing that Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty will include an online mode, allowing players to battle bosses with up to three other people. In case you missed it, Team Ninja has already released a limited-time demo version for Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty through PlayStation and Xbox to make adjustments according to player feedback gleaned from this demo. The game is planned for release on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5, and PC via Steam in early 2023.
