The game now has a Mostly Negative rating on Valve’s storefront.

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty has been bombarded with thousands of negative reviews on Steam. Team Ninja’s most recent souls-like entry now has a “mostly negative” rating due to its extremely poor performance on PC.

Nioh developer’s long-awaited title aims to bring ancient Chinese mythology into its challenging souls-like formula. And it seems like it successfully delivers that promise across multiple platforms…except for PC. According to the thousands of Steam reviews, the extremely unstable performance and low optimization render the game practically unplayable.

A great majority of Steam reviews say that the game has a massive optimization issue. While some of the players say that the demo version of the PC port ran better, the issues of Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty are not limited to dipping frame rates. Many players have complained about the game’s mouse and keyboard controls as well.

Alongside the constant stuttering, Wo Long also comes with a very unusual key layout that, for example, assigns the TAB key to deflect or dodge incoming attacks. “This has to be a bad trolling attempt by the devs,” says a user in their review. Another user shares that the game’s camera “feels sluggish,” and caused the user to quit Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty after just an hour of gameplay. “It honestly made me feel unwell, which is why I stopped.”

While most souls-like games tend to play better with gamepad controls, the reviews indicate that Team Ninja hasn’t focused on the keyboard and mouse controls at all. That’s interesting though because the studio’s previous title, Nioh 2, had a great key layout that made the switch from controller to keyboard and mouse completely possible.

Despite Team Ninja’s years-long experience in tailoring challenging souls-like experiences, Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty definitely fell short on PC due to its abysmal performance and counter-intuitive controls. Many users suggest waiting for an update that will improve the game’s overall performance. Team Ninja should also have a ton of feedback since the game’s launch and hopefully work on a new Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty update that will bring fixes and stabilize the game’s performance.

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty is not the only title that is troubled by dipping FPS and low optimization, though. Most recently, Wild Hearts, which is another title from the publisher Koei Tecmo, has had its share of similar performance issues.
