Fall Guys’ Free To Play Model & Steam Removal Attracts Community Backlash

Fall Guys was recently made free-to-play, and released on Xbox and Nintendo Switch alongside it, but fans are not quite happy with the developments.

Fall Guys had been quite a sensation in the industry and amongst streamers a while back. Since then, the game’s popularity has dropped sharply, and despite the developer’s numerous attempts to add new content to the game, it has failed to reach the heights it was once at. The developers have since then been acquired by Epic Games, and it was only about time a big change was coming for Fall Guys.

Yesterday, a new season went live in Fall Guys, and that also marked the beginning of a new journey for the game which involved the game being available totally for free. Ideally, that would mean that a lot of players would be happy with the change and would be eager to try out the game with their friends. However, it hasn’t worked quite well for Fall Guys on PC.

Since the changes went live, there has been a massive backlash on social media over the game getting delisted from Steam. A post on the PC Gaming subreddit is filled with users expressing their disapproval over the recent developments. Players added that the game is seeing a similar fate as Rocket League, whose cosmetic system is being regarded as worse than before the game was free to play.

One of the major concerns players have is the game’s removal from Steam, which is quite a bummer for many. Users have added that their entire library is on Steam, and the lack of features on Epic Games Store is quite a big problem as compared to the incentives of free games.

On the brighter side, some users have added that the changes to the game are insignificant, considering that they don’t make it pay to win or anything and only affect the cosmetics. It seems like Epic Games might need some more time to eradicate the reluctance of players to move away from Steam.
