EXCL: Paula Lane explains she’s glad Coronation Street’s Kylie Platt was killed off | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV

It’s almost seven years since beloved Coronation Street character Kylie Platt was tragically killed off, ruling out any future return to the ITV show.

However, Paula Lane, the actress who played her, has exclusively revealed to Express.co.uk that she doesn’t miss having the safety net of a possible Coronation Street comeback.

In recent times her on screen son Max Turner (Paddy Bever) has gone off the rails and is currently in a youth detention centre after being found guilty of encouraging terrorism.

Ordinarily such a hard-hitting storyline would be the perfect cue for a surprise return but Paula’s happy that it’s not an option.

“I think it’s made me work harder,” the mum of two reflects, speaking to us on the phone from Leeds.

“I think once you close the door on something like that, it’s quite hard to walk back into it and pick up where you left off.

“It might not have had the same magic to it either,” she considers. “But you can’t guess, can you? It is what it is.

“It gave me an absolutely fantastic ending,” she enthuses.

However, she concedes that her on screen family’s current troubles would have been a great excuse to pop back for a stint.

“It would have given great scope to have been able to have gone back and carry on those crazy lives of those characters,” she admits.

“But that’s just the way it went and I’m happy that I have to take on these different roles now,” she enthuses.

“And it’s amazing to see people’s reaction when they see you in something so different as well. There’s nothing more fulfilling than that.”

Paula’s latest role couldn’t be further from the cobbles of Coronation Street.

She’s donning full Regency garb to play Phoebe Throssel in Peter Pan author J.M. Barrie’s rarely revived play Quality Street.

The touring production is a collaboration between Northern Broadsides and New Vic Theatre and is a hilarious farce that has audiences in stitches.

Described as Bridgerton meets Inside The Factory, it sees her playing a woman with very different ideals to wild child Kylie.

The show is touring across the UK until July and with it hitting towns such as Scarborough, Blackpool and Hull, Paula is getting a lot of recognition from Corrie fans across the country.

“Especially recently, being in the cities, I’ve been recognised a little bit more.

“Somebody stopped me the other day and said, ‘I don’t know how David [Platt] put up with you.’

“So, you know, people still hold me [Kylie] in their memories.”

Quality Street is currently touring the UK. Tickets and upcoming dates can be found here
