July 2022 is an important month for Star Citizen players as Alpha 3.17.2 will be released on live servers, delivering new points of interest as well as new events and some important improvements.
Over two months after the 3.17.1 release, now Cloud Imperium Games is almost ready to release the second part of Alpha 3.17. Fans are pretty excited about the new update as it will include new playable content as well as much-needed improvements, though there is no new ship coming for now.
In order to provide you with detailed insight into what’s in store for Star Citizen in Alpha 3.17.2, we have listed all the things we know about the new patch so far. We will continuously update this article as CIG shares more details in the coming weeks.
New Content
Siege of Orison Dynamic Event
As the biggest content drop in Alpha 3.17.2, Siege of Orison is an on-foot mission on the outskirts of Orison, where you will be joining the Civilian Defence Force to clear the Nine Tails troops from the planet. More details on this mission will be shared when we are closer to the update’s launch.
Illegal Delivery Missions
Delivery missions will be expanded briefly with Alpha 3.17.2 as CIG adds illegal variants of these missions to the game. Completing illegal delivery missions will increase your reputation with criminals of the universe.
New Points of Interest
The new update adds Derelict Recalimer settlements to Stanton, where you will find new missions and loots. Moreover, you will spot worn-down outposts as well, including various types of loots.
Another Run of Jumptown 2.0
Despite having Jumptown available earlier in July 2022 for a few days, there will be another run of the event coming with Alpha 3.17.2.
Fixes and Improvements
Actor Downstream Network Improvements
A series of changes to the Actor Downstream Network system will vastly improve the movement of players and NPCs in the universe. You will experience fewer jitter and unrealistic movements with this improvement, making the player’s motion much smoother.
Mission Box Added to Mustang
CIG is working to add a Mission Box to Consolidated Outland Mustang, which will allow you to transport your mission boxes without a headache. The team is finalizing the design for this new feature right now.
Reduced Floating Rocks
Thanks to a fix from the Environment Art team, you will spot fewer floating rocks on planetary spaces, especially on Yela and Daymar.
Other Changes
Recently, CIG shared a monthly review of what the team has achieved in June 2022 toward releasing Alpha 3.17.2. The article mostly includes in-depth explanations of the improvements made in various sections. You can read the full details on these tweaks via this link.
Release Schedule
Currently, there is no official release date for Alpha 3.17.2, but we know that the update will come out in July 2022. CIG recently revealed that the patch has entered to PTU Wave 1 testing, which means it is probably two steps away from full launch on live servers.
