Now we finally know the true identity of Halbrand, and the Stranger’s encounter with the white-robed people was also a notable moment. With so much happening in the series, it’s obvious that the fans craved more episodes. But now that season one has finally come to an end; everyone wonders if the series will be renewed for a new season or not. Here’s everything you need to know about it.

Fortunately, season 2 of The Rings of Power is already announced, and three more seasons will release after that, taking the total to five seasons. The news comes from the head of Amazon Studios, Jennifer Salke, in her interview with Variety. She said, “We’re building infrastructure for five seasons. We’re building a small city. We were always going to spend what we needed to spend to get it right.”

Production And Budget

Amazon brought the rights for the series back in November 2017, when they made a five-season commitment with a total estimated budget of $1 Billion. This would make The Rings of Power the most expensive television series ever made.

More interestingly, the production for the second season started on October 3rd, 2022, even before the release of the last two episodes of season one. The production of season one took place in New Zealand, but for the upcoming seasons, Amazon has moved the production to the UK.

Is The Rings Of Power Season 2 Release Date Confirmed?

As of now, there’s no official word as to when the new season of the series will drop. But, given that the series is already in production and Jennifer Salke has promised to bring back the show as soon as possible, we can even expect it to return somewhere around the end of 2023 or in early 2024. Jennifer stated that they will try to keep the time between the two seasons really short. But that said, the production team will make sure not to degrade the quality of the series, so it will take the time it deserves.

Additionally, it was revealed that the second season will have an all-female directing team. That means the directors of the first season, J. A. Bayona and Wayne Che Yip, will not be directing any of the episodes. French film director Charlotte Brandstorm might still be there in the directing team who directed the sixth episode of the first season.

A New Character Will Be Introduced In The Series

While most cast members will return for their respective roles, we can easily expect more new characters to be introduced in the series. But, one new character that is confirmed to appear in the second season is Cirdan, who is known to be a wise and old elf. He was also a character in The Lord of the Rings movies and was portrayed by Michael Elsworth. But, the production team is tight-lipped about who will play this role in the series.

Cirdan has been a character in Tolkien’s works in all four ages, where he was the Lord of the Falathrim during the First Age, and Master of the Gray Havens in the Second, Third, and the Fourth Age. He is the oldest known elf and one of the last ones to have left Middle Earth, sailing off to the West to some unknown place.
