Back in February 2022, Rockstar Games announced Grand Theft Auto 6, after years of patient waiting from fans. GTA6 was merely name-dropped in a blog though, we still haven’t officially seen the game in action.
But with the information in that blog and a series of recent leaks, we now have a fairly good idea of what we’ll be doing in GTA 6, and who we’ll be playing as. These leaks have since been confirmed by Rockstar to be real.
In this breakdown we’ll be going over everything we know about GTA 6 right now.
When will GTA 6 release?
We haven’t got an official date for GTA 6 currently, but we understand that the series of recent leaks were from a 2019 build of the game, and already appeared to have had several years of development at that point. Still, we can only confirm that the game has been in full development since 2019 at the earliest, which is just a few months after the launch of the studio’s last big game, Red Dead Redemption 2.
Our best guess at the launch date for Grand Theft Auto 6 is the 2024 holiday period.
Where is GTA 6 set?
It appears that GTA 6 is set in Vice City, the same location that was present in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, of course. This location appears to be a modern-day rendition of the city, as opposed to the ’80s-inspired version we saw in that game.
Fans had theorised that this was case previously, when publisher Take-Two Interactive removed several Vice City mods that fans had been working on. This was an unusual move for the publisher, which indicated that it had its own plans for a modern take on the classic location. Of course, the recent leaks confirmed that speculation to be accurate.
Does GTA 6 have a female protagonist?
This has been rumored for some time, and now appears to be correct. GTA 6 does feature two protagonists, one male and one female, for a Bonnie & Clyde-style scenario.
From the recent leaks, we can now confirm that the game’s dual protagonists are called Lucia and Jason.
What weapons will be in GTA 6?
We can confirm the existence of several weapons in the game currently.
Melee weapons include a golf club, crowbar, and baseball bat.
As for firearms, we see an assault rifle, sniper rifle, shotgun, rocket launcher, and pistol, naturally.
The time period for GTA 6 appears to be close to the modern day, so we can expect modern weaponry to be included. It’s also possible that Lucia can dual-wield certain weapons.
Will GTA 6 have character customization?
While the two primary protagonists appear to have their appearances solidified, you should expect to customize your clothing and hairstyles, as in other Rockstar games.If you want full character customization, then a potential GTA Online sequel is probably where you would find it, though we haven’t had any confirmation of a new version of GTA Online as of yet.
