Horror fans are in for a treat this November as developer Nox Noctis and publisher Perp Games have announced that the award-winning Do Not Open will be releasing on November 15th, 2022 for PS5.

However, there are some twists to this release. The initial release date of November 15th is just for the digital version on PS5. The PS4 edition will release sometime in early 2023. Likewise, the physical edition of Do Not Open has multiple release dates, too. The physical version for PS5 will release on November 25th, 2022 in the UK and Europe, while North American players will have to wait until early 2023 to add the disc to their collection.

Do Not Open will also feature a VR version that was originally planned for PS4. However, Nox Noctis has since decided to drop development on the PS4 version’s PSVR element in favour of focusing the studio’s resources on the PSVR 2 to deliver the “definitive” version for the platform.

The game’s developer bills Do Not Open as a “disturbing survival horror” game that draws inspiration from the best video games, movies, and books in the genre while being endlessly replayable thanks to the procedurally generated escape room-like structure. In fact, the developer claims there are over 2,000,000 possible different versions with a differing house layout for each playthrough, along with puzzle codes and key items being switched and swapped for every player. What’s more is that even the plot is said to be a mysterious puzzle, too. It all sounds intriguing and it definitely looks the part going by the latest (creepy) trailer.

Do Not Open follows Michael J. Goreng as he attempts to keep his mind intact, all the while voices penetrate his psyche and his homely environment seemingly turns against him. A man’s castle is his home, but poor Michael’s castle is in full-on invasion mode, and he is the one being hunted by a paranormal entity.

If you’re interested in Do Not Open and don’t want to forget about it among the slew of new announcements and upcoming releases, you can add the game to your wishlist on the USA and UK PlayStation Store, or Steam, if you’re a PC player. At the time of writing, there’s no word yet on whether Do Not Open will have a PCVR version, or if the developer is sticking firmly to the PSVR 2.
