Epic unveils Fortnite Creative 2.0 using new Unreal editor

0

Epic revealed Fortnite Creative 2.0 during its GDC 2023 presentation, alongside a new Unreal editor to further its metaverse ambitions. Fortnite Creative 2.0 gives every player access to an expansive design tool, officially called the Unreal Editor for Fortnite, which they can use to create almost anything that comes to mind in the multiplayer game.

Like in the original creative mode, you can use assets that are already in Fortnite to make something in that distinctive style, but that’s just the start. Epic’s promotional trailer included a level that looked like it wouldn’t be out of place in a FromSoft game and an industrial world that resembled Final Fantasy 7’s Midgar, with a boss fight against a massive robot.

The heroes in all this? Fortnite’s fish mascot. Whatever you create, you can plop your Fortnite character in it, skins and all.

Creative 2.0 is rolling out alongside a money-making incentive for creators as well. Epic is setting aside a shared pool of 40 percent of its item shop revenue to split between itself and creators whose islands reach certain engagement metric milestones. The goal, Epic said, is attracting more people to Fortnite through these creations, though it the company offered no specific measurements to help creators know what benchmarks to aim for.
