Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, the upcoming DLC for From Software’s epic RPG, will reportedly feature a map equal to the size of Limgrave, if not larger. Speaking to IGN, Elden Ring director Hidetaka Miyazaki compared it to the first major area you can explore in the base game, which includes both Stormhill and the entire Stormveil Castle.
“It’s hard to answer without giving away too much and to a high degree of accuracy, but if you think in terms of scale or size, it’s probably comparable, if not larger, than the area of Limgrave from the base game,” Miyazaki said. It’s clear that the exact scope won’t be fully revealed until we’re actually exploring the new area. Nonetheless, it’s a good general indication of what to expect.
Speaking of expectations, the director added that Shadow of the Erdtree will have a similar experience to what you’ve come to expect with Elden Ring, including open field maps, large-scale legacy dungeons, and small to medium-scale sub-areas to plunge through.
The DLC setting is a brand-new land with its own map, separate from the Lands Between. The director mentioned it will “involve a warp of sorts” to get there, which is unclear at the moment. Said warp might have something to do with Miquella, a character that will be a “key part of the story,” according to Miyazaki. You’ll be following in his footsteps to discover what’s happening in the Land of Shadow. This also ties in with Queen Marika and what she did in this location, prompting Miquella to embark on this crusade in the first place.
