Elden Ring Axe of Godfrey Build Guide – Elden Lord

In this Elden Ring Axe of Godfrey Guide, I’ll be showing you my Elden Lord build. This is an NG+ build that focuses on using Axe of Godfrey, which is a colossal weapon that was buffed in 1.07. The reason that this is an NG+ build is that the Axe of Godfrey can only be obtained near the very end of the game. You’re not going to get this until late into the game, so it makes sense to focus on a build when you start playing through NG+.

Elden Ring Axe of Godfrey Build Guide – Elden Lord

A Quality (Strength/Dexterity) Build that uses Axe of Godfrey and its weapon skill Regal Roar to pancake foes.

We have over 110 Elden Ring Builds now, for all classes and playstyles. This Build is recommended for Level 150-200.

Elden Ring Axe of Godfrey Build – Equipment and Gameplay

The Axe of Godfrey is a colossal weapon which has been buffed in 1.07. What’s great about this weapon is that it is a Quality-scaling weapon which goes very well into NG+ as you wouldn’t have maxed out the potential of this weapon at 80 STR and 80 DEX until the very end of NG+, maybe in the beginning of NG++. Its damage will continue to increase throughout NG+, and its weapon skill Regal Roar is fantastic.

Axe of Godfrey

Regal Roar has an insane amount of Poise, allowing it to tank anything so it can continue casting. It has a pretty good AoE size, and it does pretty good damage. Regal Roar also knocks enemies into their air, even tough enemies like Cleanrot Knight. It will cause some enemies to flinch, like Crucible Knights. It will also buff the weapon damage and changes the R2 attack of the weapon into some sort of stomp, then followed up by a sweeping axe attack. Regal Roar also reduces time between strong attacks, and also skill activation. The duration of the effects of the roar lasts for 40 seconds, so you’re going to have increased damage during that time.

Even if you don’t have 51 Poise with this build, you can still power through attacks because Regal Roar gives you hyper armor not only during the shout, but also during the follow-up attacks. You can swing through any regular attack, and it allows you to do substantial damage. Your attack rating will be at around 934, which isn’t terrible. You’ll be able to deal a lot of damage out of the weapon skill.

We’re also using the Highland Axe on our offhand. We’re not really using it, as we’re two-handing the Axe of Godfrey. We want the most damage possible out of that weapon, so having Highland Axe on our offhand, we gain an extra 7.5% damage not only during the shout, but also on the follow-up R2 attacks. We’re also using the Roar Medallion for the same reason, as this will give you an extra 15% damage boost when using Regal Roar.

The armor set that I’m using here is the Elden Lord Set. It matches the theme of the Axe of Godfrey Build, as there’s a bit of a cosplay going on. You can use other armor sets, as this is probably not the best armor set in the game. It just matched the theme, so I’m using it. It has decent protection for the weight that it has. Its Poise is kind of low at 38, but you can use Bull-Goat’s Talisman to bring it up to 51, which is the breakpoint needed to sustain one regular hit and still be able to swing. This isn’t really important, as you’re going to have hyper armor with the skill anyway. If you were min-maxing, you can find better armor with higher protection so you can trade hits with enemies.

Elden Ring Axe of Godfrey Build – Talismans

Aside from Roar Medallion, I’ll be using: Shard of Alexander, Dragoncrest Greatshield Talisman, and Bull-Goat’s Talisman.

Shard of Alexander increases the damage of your shout. It doesn’t increase the follow-up R2 attacks the way Roar Medallion does, but it does increase the shout. Regal Roar’s shout is absolutely deadly, so we want to boost the damage as much as possible.

Shard of Alexander

I also use the Dragoncrest Greatshield Talisman to further give me protection. The armor set I’m using does not have the best protection, but if you’re using a heavier armor with more protection, you’re probably not going to need this one.

Dragoncrest Greatshield Talisman

Lastly, I’m using the Bull-Goat’s Talisman, but it’s a flex slot. Bull-Goat’s Talisman will help us reach that 51 Poise breakpoint. If you’re not using Bull-Goat’s Talisman, Claw Talisman will be a good choice as it’ll increase the damage of your jump attacks by 15%. Jump attacks are effective with this weapon, so you’ll be using it a lot. You can also use Axe Talisman to further increase your charged R2 attack damage, as you’ll use it when you’re buffed with Regal Roar.

Elden Ring Axe of Godfrey Build – Attributes

The attributes for this Axe of Godfrey build are: 50 Vigor, 25 Mind, 23 Endurance, 55 Strength, 55 Dexterity, 16 Intelligence, 7 Faith, and 9 Arcane. You don’t need any Intelligence, Faith, or Arcane for this build. I started out as an Astrologer, so I have these points in these attributes.

From this point onwards or after you hit 80 STR and DEX, I would suggest investing in Faith because Flame, Grant Me Strength grants you a 20% increase in physical damage while Golden Vow gives you 15% damage with additional defenses. You’re not going to get much more damage out of this weapon up to 80 STR and DEX. Past that point, the damage drops off significantly, so consider increasing your Faith to get these buffs for your attack damage. It’s a good direction to go with in this build in NG+, or even NG++.

When it comes to Vigor, you’re going to increase this to 60 eventually. You’ll trade a lot of hits with this build, as it’s the nature of it. You’re going to take a lot of damage because you’ll be tanking hits when you use Regal Roar as it has a long wind-up. It deals a lot of damage, so it’s worth tanking hits for.

Mind is fine at 25. You may want to take it up to 30 to be able to use Regal Roar more liberally throughout NG+, but you probably don’t need to do that. Also, you’ll have blue flasks to refill your FP anyway.

Endurance is at 23 in order to do a medium roll with the set-up I’m using. If you’re using heavier armor, you’re going to need more Endurance. You can’t really have too much Endurance with this build, so it’s not a bad attribute to invest in because the shout and follow-up attacks of Regal Roar consume a lot of stamina. You’ll find that you’re usually limited by your stamina once you fight bosses, so it isn’t such a bad idea to invest in Endurance.

As I mentioned, Faith will be a good attribute to invest in once you get your Strength and Dexterity to 80, as it’ll give you a You’re not going to get all of these attribute points in NG+, so you’re probably looking to upgrade your Faith in NG++.

Elden Ring Axe of Godfrey Build – Final Tips

When it comes to Flask of Wondrous Physick, I’m using Greenburst Crystal Tear which will give you increased stamina recovery. As I mentioned, you’re highly limited by stamina when it comes to being as aggressive as you want with this build. Having stamina recover quickly during boss fights or when you’re taking on tough enemies is very good.

Greenburst Crystal Tear

I also like using Spiked Cracked Tear, as there aren’t really any good tears for this build. If you do a charged R2 attack before or after you use Regal Roar, it’ll help boost your damage. Other options would be Leaden Hardtear to increase your poise temporarily, or Opaline Bubbletear to negate the damage of one hit on you. These two can protect you from bosses so you it’ll be possible for you to trade hits.

That’s it for our Elden Lord Build Guide! As always, let us know if you have questions or other tips in the comments below. We have a ton more builds coming for Elden Ring and Shadow of the Erdtree so stay tuned for those. If you need help finding items, and securing some personal objectives, make sure to check the Elden Ring Map. Happy building!
