EA Cancels Battlefield Mobile And Shuts Down The Studio Behind It

That didn’t take long, did it?

Electronic Arts has officially announced that the development of Battlefield Mobile has been canceled along with Apex Legends Mobile, as the publisher aims to focus on the upcoming mainline Battlefield experiences and evolving Battlefield 2042. Moreover, a report from VentureBeat suggests that EA is also attempting to shut down Industrial Toys, the studio behind Battlefield Mobile.

Back in 2018, Electronic Arts acquired Industrial Toys, an indie studio led by former Bungie CEO Alex Seropian. Battlefield Mobile was supposed to be the debut title from the studio after the acquisition, but the project never see the light of day. Battlefield Mobile was in the soft launch phase and many would consider it as a competitor for Activision’s Warzone Mobile, but it seems like EA gave up sooner than expected.

“As the industry has evolved and our strategy to create a deeply connected Battlefield ecosystem has taken shape, we decided to pivot from the current direction to best deliver on our vision for the franchise and to meet the expectations of our players,” reads the statement from EA. “We remain highly committed to unlocking Battlefield’s enormous potential. We’re hard at work at evolving Battlefield 2042, and are in pre-production on our future Battlefield experiences at our studios across the globe.”

There is no official announcement on whether the Battlefield Mobile developers will remain at Electronic Arts or if the company would simply lay off the staff. Industrial Toys only had 14 developers when it was acquired by EA.

While Battlefield Mobile was never released, Apex Legends Mobile was a big hit for Electronic Arts, so it’s shutting down has come as a big surprise to the community. According to EA, the game did not meet its expectations.

Respawn Entertainment highlighted the lack of a high-quality stream of post-launch content support as the main reason behind the cancelation of Apex Legends Mobile, a game that had only been on the market for three months.
