Dying Light’s Enhanced Edition Content is Free To Everyone – GameSpew

Techland, developers of Dying Light, have made the game’s “Enhanced Edition” content free, including the massive The Following expansion.

Dying Light, which blends building-hopping parkour with slaughtering the undead, was released in 2015, with The Following expansion, er, following in 2016. However, while sequel Dying Light 2: Stay Human came out this year, Techland have released additional content for the original, including a next-gen PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S update.

Now, as announced by Techland, anyone who’s purchased the original Dying Light will get a free upgrade to the Enhanced Edition, which includes The Following, the Crash Test Skin Pack, the Ultimate Survivor Bundle and the Cuisine and Cargo pack. On top of that, they’re also releasing a Dieselpunk pack which includes a chainsaw, outfit and more.

As freebies go, that’s a pretty generous bounty, though it’s The Following that’s the real game changer. Sure, you might grin and do a funny little dance at the prospect of mowing down zombies in its battered, blood-stained buggy but that’s not what makes it so great. We love The Following because it takes your protagonist outside of your comfort zone, literally.

In a deliciously devious twist, The Following is set in the countryside, meaning that all those buildings you’ve been taken granted are as rare as zombie hens’ teeth. Likewise, your parkour skills are next to no help at all. How are you going to get past the hordes of undead with nowhere to take a breather and thumb your nose at them?

So how do you get your hands on the Enhanced Edition (the only version of the game currently available for purchase) if you’ve already bought the original? According to Techland it’s as simple as this:

  • Launch Dying Light
  • In the main menu choose the option “DLC Packs”
  • Download all the new content!

And that’s it. The free upgrade applies to the PC, Mac, PlayStation and Xbox versions of the game; the Nintendo Switch version already includes the DLC. The Hellraid DLC, effectively a new game based on a cancelled, fantasy-themed Techland title, isn’t free but The Following alone should keep you playing till the corpses come home. Enjoy!
