Timothee Chalamet has assumed his rightful place as Muad’Dib, the prophet of the Fremen in the first trailer for Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Two. 2021’s Dune was another adaption of Frank Hubert’s Dune book series, one that proved to be extremely successful. It was one of the year’s top 10 films and nominated for 10 Academy Awards, including Best Picture, winning six.

“We really see Paul Atreides become a leader here,” Chalamet said during Warner Bros. presentation during CinemaCon. He was joined by Villeneuve and co-star, Zendaya.

“She’s not just in dreams this time,” Zendaya said of her character, Chani. “I only got such a small time to get to know who she was and now I really feel like she’s a part of myself. These are still just two young people trying to grow up and fall in love and live.”

Villeneuve said it was a pleasure for him to bring Austin Butler on board as Paul’s rival, Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen, usually just referred to as Feyd. Feyd was first brought to life by singer Sting in David Lynch’s Dune film.

The director also added that Florence Pugh is “a key player in the political chess game and brings a sense of mystery.” Pugh was confirmed to play Princess Irulan, who is Paul’s betrothed. He also added that they go to all-new locations and all-new sets. They filmed the movie fully in IMAX. Only 40% of Part 1 was filmed this way.

The CinemaCon footage showed Paul and Chani sitting on sand dunes, talking to each other. Paul is explaining the concept of swimming to her. She doesn’t believe him. Cut to our first look at Irulan who wants to end the House of Atredies. Finally, we see Paul riding a sandworm, fulfilling his prophecy.

Dune: Part Two is set to be released on November 3, 2023.
