Does V Rising work on Steam Deck? Compatibility and performance, explained

Many V Rising fans will want to play the game on the Steam Deck to take their thirst for blood on the road. Here is how V Rising performs on Steam Deck.

What is V Rising’s Steam Deck Compatibility rating? Answered

On the Steam Deck, V Rising has a Playable Compatibility rating, meaning that the game can be played on the Steam Deck, although it may not be fully optimized for the best performance. Luckily, relocating your base is easier than ever, even with the Steam Deck.

The things that keep V Rising from being Verified are as follows:

  • The game may sometimes shows mouse and keyboard controls and icons.
  • Some in-game text may be small and difficult to read.

This makes V Rising not fully verified, although it certainly is playable. Until these issues are addressed, the game won’t be fully Verified. It’s unclear how important this task is to Stunlock Games, although I imagine they’ll iron out these issues before long.

If you don’t want to wait for full verification for the Steam Deck, then you can go right ahead and play it, although you will run into these issues.

How well does V Rising run on Steam Deck? Answered

To really know how well V Rising performs on the Steam Deck, I tried the game myself, and can report that there certainly are performance issues. Although I was able to play the game, I think I’ll stick to the PC for now.

The main cursor controls are rather finicky. Both the right joystick and touchpad can be used to move the cursor, but it’s an effort. This made getting past the initial settings and privacy policy a chore, and I found myself slightly irked every time I had to use them.

On the highest graphical settings, I only achieved 30 frames per second, with 60 frames per second only achievable by dropping the graphic settings to low. No matter the quality of the graphics, however, around 15 of those frames abandoned me whenever I tried to move the camera with the left trigger.

Thankfully I’m not too bothered by frame rates generally, as long as I know what I’m doing and can play, I’m fine. However, this is a constant problem whenever I need to move and turn in a fight, making engagements more of a chore than a joy.

Although the Steam Deck controls don’t show up, it’s not too difficult to navigate the controls for those familiar with how the Steam Deck works. Some memorization, experimentation, and orientation is required, but it doesn’t become a barrier once you have figured everything out.

For the time being, I’ll try to earn the new Spider Form on the PC. But if you’re desperate to play V Rising on the Steam Deck, then these issues shouldn’t be too hard a barrier.
