Disney Illusion Island Releases July 28 For Nintendo Switch
Play as Mickey, Minnie, Donald, and/or Goofy in this 1-4 player co-op platformer.
During today’s Nintendo Direct, Dlala Studios presented its newest title, Disney Illusion Island, which can be wishlisted now on the eShop for Nintendo Switch. You and three friends can play as Mickey, Minnie, Donald, and/or Goofy in this co-op multiplayer platforming adventure, which officially releases on July 28.
As can be seen in a trailer from last year, Mickey and the gang find themselves on a mysterious island known at Monoth. To save the island from sure disaster, they will have to traverse the three biomes of Monoth to find three mystical books and return them to Chief Toku. You will upgrade your abilities to get around by running, jumping, swimming, and swinging while keeping your health hearts full. While you can play as any of the four characters, they all look to have the exact same controls and abilities.
Most titles shown in the Direct featured HD graphics and 3D designs, but Disney Illusion Island breaks from that trend with its traditional 2D cartoon animation. What results is the promise of a brand-new Mickey & Friends adventure on Switch, complete with an original score and voiceover cast. Playing with friends will bring co-operative features such as Leap Frog to get across gaps too far to jump alone, Rope Drop to get to higher ledges, and hugs to increase health.
Not much more is known at this time. Only the four protagonists are familiar Disney characters in this game. The rest look like original characters created just for this game. It looks to play like a standard platformer with wall jumps and ground pounds like the modern Super Mario games. It doesn’t seem as though other familiar Disney themes will be present, offering a fresh take on the 2D platformer.
Dlala Studios previously released its own updated version of Battletoads for Xbox One and PC last summer. It received rave reviews, complimenting its animation and easier gameplay by comparison to its NES inspiration. As opposed to Battletoads, Disney Illusion Island will maintain a 2D sidescrolling atmosphere throughout. With co-op for up to four players, it looks like this could be a Disney game that many fans have been waiting for when it releases this summer.
