The explosive extracts about Meghan Markle from the book Courtiers: The Hidden Power Behind the Crown have been published. Lorraine Kelly and royal expert Russell Myers discussed the bombshell book on Monday’s instalment of her ITV talk show. Lorraine savaged the Duchess of Sussex as the book claims Meghan believed she would become “the Beyoncé of the UK” when she married Prince Harry.

Russell began: “There is a new book coming out called Courtiers, another new book with the royals, this time from the sublime to the ridiculous about Meghan, apparently wanting to be the UK Beyoncé, so I will fill you in on that.”

Lorraine couldn’t resist taking a dig at the Duchess, telling Russell: “I didn’t know she could sing, I didn’t know she could dance – but I am sure she can.”

The book claimed Meghan despised the strict rules she had to follow as part of the Royal Family.

The Scottish presenter tried to laugh off her jibe about Grammy Award-winning singer Beyoncé before they revisited the matter later on in the show.

Sources have claimed Meghan was “disillusioned” by the strict protocols of life as a senior royal and felt “increasingly cornered and misunderstood” by The Firm.

The book also claims the late Queen was “forced to put her foot down” over Megxit and warned Harry and Meghan they were “either in or out” at the Sandringham summit where royals decided the couple’s future.

A former palace insider alleged: “I think Meghan thought she was going to be the Beyoncé of the UK. Being part of the Royal Family would give her that kudos.

“Whereas what she discovered was that there were so many rules that were so ridiculous that she couldn’t even do the things that she could do as a private individual, which is tough.”

“One of the people there who had spoken to Valentine has claimed Meghan had such an opinion of herself that it’s claimed she wanted to become the Beyoncé of the UK.

“Now what does that mean? I think it means something about star power, that she wants to be noted as the main person in the room.”

Lorraine replied: “You can’t be the main person in the room if the other person in the room is the Queen.”

However, Lorraine later reminded Russell the Sussexes have not been able to have their say on the allegations in the new book.
