Battlefield 2042 Season 3 begins next week on Tuesday, November 22nd, though DICE is kicking off the official reveals with today’s launch trailer. Previous leaks have revealed some information about the upcoming season, in particular the new volcano map, Eruption, which is, surprisingly, not part of Season 3. According to reporting from VGC, the upcoming season, dubbed “Escalation”, will bring even more new content to the battlegrounds of the near future, including the new map “Spearhead.”

Spearhead is the first Battlefield 2042 map to be set in DICE’s home country of Sweden. Taking place on a mountainside, Spearhead features a pair of large, autonomous facilities that produce high-end weaponry. Indoor and outdoor combat will both be supported in the new map, placing equal importance on ground control and aerial combat. Other maps arriving in Season 3 include reworks of Manifest and Breakaway.

The original Battlefield 2042 Specialist system is being reworked to be more in line with the traditional Battlefield classes. Specialists of the same class will all have access to universal traits with the current gadgets and throwables divided among classes based on their role. DICE is hoping that this adjustment to the Specialist system will appeal to fans of the older Battlefield titles.

Speaking of, the Egyptian Zain and his XM370A airburst rifle will be joining the roster. Zain, an assault Specialist, is able to regenerate lost health after taking down an enemy combatant. Joining the new playable character are four new weapons: the Rorsch Mk-4 railgun, NVK-22 smart shotgun, NVK-P125 Bullpup pistol, and finally, throwing knives.

Fans of vehicular warfare will also get some new gear to play take into battle with the arrival of the laser-equipped EMKV90-TOR tank. The new tank has two different modes, a mobility mode for increased speed and a siege mode that slows it down but greatly increases damage output. The EMKV90-TOR even has a form of “tank-sense” in that it can detect incoming fire within a certain distance.

Season 3 will also bring some weapons from the fan-favorite Portal mode into All-Out Warfare. Completion of Assignments will let players unlock the XM8 and A-91 Vault Weapons for use outside of Portal. While the base game of Battlefield 2042 was roundly derided by fans, the Portal mode has been hailed as the best new feature, so seeing a continued influence from Portal in the main game is encouraging for the shooter’s future.

Battlefield 2042 has been routinely getting outplayed on Steam by older titles in the franchise, including the five-year-old Battlefield 1. The recent announcement that Battlefield 2042 will be joining Microsoft Game Pass in time for Season 3’s release is likely to bring in more players, both returning and those experiencing the game for the first time. To the studio’s credit, DICE has stated that it is already working on more content that will be released after Season 4, ensuring Battlefield 2042 has the studio’s support for the foreseeable future.
