Diablo 4 Character Respeccing Isn’t “Prohibitively Expensive,” Says Series GM

Blizzard Entertainment’s Diablo 4 will receive more information this month, courtesy of a Developer Update livestream about progression and the end game. While the beta allowed for easily respeccing skills and passives, this will require “significant investment” later on, as per lead game designer Joe Shely.

Diablo series GM Rod Fergusson even said back in November to IGN that it would be “too expensive to undo everything” if you decided to play a different build. Rolling a new character would be better in that respect. The idea is that “with each level you progress down a character, you’re becoming more and more attached to it, and getting more and more settled with it.”

Not everyone was cool with that, but in light of the recent beta, it seems the team is trying to make things slightly easier. Responding to a Twitter user about not wanting to remake characters, Fergusson recently said respeccing is “not prohibitively expensive and we’ve made it easier by being able to refund a single skill point or the entire tree at once.”

How this translates to the end-game, especially with Paragon Boards, remains to be seen. If Gold is still a primary resource for respeccing like the beta, it should be easy given how much you’ll have by mid to late game. Time will tell, of course.

Diablo 4 is out on June 6th for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, PC, Xbox One and PS4. Ultimate Edition owners can get access on June 2nd for $99.99.
