Destiny 2 features many colorful and badass Guardians, but perhaps none more so than Saint-14. But who is this Exo Guardian?
Saint-14 is a seasoned Guardian Titan, a well-known figure in the world of Bungie’s Sci-Fi MMO looter shooter Destiny 2. Thought dead for many years, the Titan has resurfaced and is ready to continue the fight against the threats facing humanity.
Crafted into the legend he’s revered for thanks to a self-fulfilling time-loop involving the player’s Guardian, Saint-14 is a character of legend and grandiosity. Here’s everything we know about Saint-14, the Guardian that now stands to train and prepare The Last City for its greatest threat yet.
Who Is Saint-14?
Saint-14 is an ancient Guardian from the early days of the Last City, humanity’s final refuge after the destruction of their vast empire after the arrival of the Darkness. An Exo that was revived in the ruins of Old Russia, Saint-14 was mentored under the tutelage of The Speaker and told he was destined to be a hero that others could latch onto for hope and inspiration. Trained as a Titan Guardian, Saint-14 set off for Mercury to help to evacuate refugees.
Creating a short-lived colony on Mercury to house refugees, Saint-14 would soon find himself surrounded by Vex that had stormed the colony and slaughtered everyone but himself. Fearing this was to be his end, he prepared to send out a final message of his fate before being contacted by another Guardian’s Ghost, informing him that reinforcements were en route. These reinforcements were, in fact, the player character’s guardian, displaced through time on a mission to save Saint-14 from meeting a grizzly fate centuries after these events.
Having been rescued and gifted a shotgun by the player, Saint-14 is shown the future Last City and humanity’s prevailing survival, inspiring him to become the legend history says he became, the first of several time displacement shenanigans the character will find themselves in. Later on, Saint-14 would become romantically involved with the obsessive Warlock, Osiris, a fact that the narrative designer for Destiny 2 would confirm after fans speculated on the nature of the two’s relationship.
Cheating Death & Coming Home
Saint-14 would fall off the radar for years, presumed dead, after venturing into the Infinite Forest — a Vex spacial anomaly they use to strategize and simulate events — in pursuit of Osiris, who had ventured there to further one of his long-running expeditionary ventures. Trapped in a multi-century cycling loop, Saint-14 would be beaten down, drained of his light, and killed by the Vex. Upon finding his lover’s remains, Osiris would try and fail to use time displacement technology to rescue Saint-14, to no avail.
The player’s Guardian character would intervene, and successfully locate Saint-14, once more rescuing him from death via time travel, and Saint-14 helps the player smash their way through hordes of Vex and back into the present day. Mourning the friends he had lost in the time he spent in the Infinite Forest, but equally enthusiastic at how much has progressed, Saint-14 returned to the Last City and set up shop as a trainer and supervisor for the citizens and Guardians, alike.
He would also tend to his old flame Osiris when the latter was recovering from an extended period of possession at the hands of the Witch Queen during an incursion by The Hive, and he would rekindle their relations to make up for lost time. Saint-14 now continues his duties at the Last City, training Guardians and overseeing the well-being of the civilian population, readying them for whatever threats may come their way.
