Destiny 2 Players Pay Touching In-Game Tribute To The Late Lance Reddick

Lance Reddick, the voice of Commander Zavala in Destiny 2, among other iconic acting roles, has died at the age of 60, according to CBS News via his representative Mia Hensen. Destiny players are currently gathering around his in-game character as a sentimental tribute to the actor in honor of his role.

Several videos are being shared of players standing around Commander Zavala at the Tower, Destiny 2’s social hub and base of operations for players’ Guardians. Many are sharing hug, salute and peaceful rest emotes, and some are also planning a community-wide moment of silence in front of the Commander’s character tomorrow at noon PST to bid him farewell.

Bungie provided a statement shortly after the news broke, saying: “Lance Reddick was an iconic presence on screen, in Destiny, and most importantly, in person. His love for our community shined through in Commander Zavala, in his uncompromising dedication to his craft, and out of the radiating kindness that touched those around him. To say he will be missed is a profound understatement, yet no less true.”

Lance Reddick was an acting icon that many grew up watching. Even before Bungie and Destiny, he was known for his work in popular movies like John Wick and TV shows like The Wire, Law & Order, CSI: Miami, Lost, and Fringe. Gamers will also recognize him for his recent roles in Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West as Sylens, Martin Hatch in Quantum Break, and the voice of Albert Wesker in the recent Resident Evil Netflix series.

Many actors in the film industry have expressed their condolences. A statement from John Wick star Keanu Reeves and director Chad Stahelski to Deadline reads: “He was the consummate professional and a joy to work with. Our love and prayers are with his wife Stephanie, his children, family, and friends. We dedicate the film to his loving memory. We will miss him dearly.”

The actor has also voiced the titular character in the upcoming roguelike Hellboy: Web of Wyrd. This will be one of his final posthumous productions, along with Destiny 2’s Light Fall expansion, the last Destiny story he will contribute to in his career.
