We have seen so many incredible things from Unreal Engine 5 in the last few months since its launch, but I’m sure you haven’t witnessed yet how realistic water could look like in this UE5-based indie survival, Derelicts!
With the Matrix Awakens demo, Epic Games already proved that Unreal Engine 5 could probably be the best choice for a next-gen open-world title. However, it is only a single part of this powerful engine’s capabilities.
As time passes since the launch of Unreal Engine 5, we are getting some incredible demos and simulations by fans, developers, and creators. Thus far, we have seen some crazy realistic footage from official developers built on Unreal Engine 5, and there is more to come in the future.
In between, some talented modders and indie developers are also working on incredible things on Unreal Engine 5, trying out the engine’s various capabilities to push the boundaries in crafting a realistic environment.

Recently, an indie developer shared some footage from their work-in-progress game based on Unreal Engine 5, focusing specifically on the engine’s power in simulating water, which was brought to life by Krystian Komisarek, another indie developer that is part of the project.
Derelicts is a survival game on Unreal Engine 5, and if you take a look at its Steam page, it already looks like a solid project from a small indie team. However, what makes it stands out from the other competitor is probably the developer’s focus on details in simulating the environment.
The water footage above is absolutely something incredible that you can barely find in the recent AAA projects. Although it’s yet to be seen how well this could be optimized at launch, it’s already a proud achievement for the team behind Derelicts and another sign of UE5’s crazy power.
Currently, there is no official release date for Derelicts, but we will probably hear more about it in the future!
