Deathloop Delayed to September 14

Upcoming action-adventure game Deathloop has been delayed. The PS5 and PC timed exclusive now has a release date of September 14, 2021. Developer Arkane announced the delay with a tweet citing the extra time is necessary to allow the team to achieve its vision while ensuring its staff’s health and safety— no surprise considering the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. The game was previously slated for May 21, 2021.

Previously IGN India reported that Deathloop received a price drop on PC following customer feedback. IGN India readers tipped us off that publisher Bethesda has reduced the price of Deathloop on PC after would be purchasers reached out to employees at Arkane — the game’s developer. A quick check on Steam has confirmed that the India price for Deathloop is now Rs. 2,499 versus the original Rs. 3,499 price tag.

Granted it’s not completely in line with Valve’s regional guidelines, but it’s a start. More so when you consider the significance of such a move. It is unprecedented as Bethesda’s PC pricing history in India has been far from considerate, almost always pricing its games on par with or just slightly lower than what you’d pay on console.

A recent example of this is Doom Eternal which is Rs. 3,999 on Steam, similar to what you’d pay on PS4 or Xbox One. Even when PC games occupied a Rs. 999 price tag, the company charged Rs. 2,499 upwards for its games.

It’s nice to see some publishers take user feedback seriously and hopefully, others take note. With IO Interactive raising and then reducing the price of Hitman 3 on PC to what it should have been in the first place, Bethesda is the second publisher this year to ensure fair pricing for Indian PC gamers. Perhaps it won’t be the last.

Deathloop is out on September 14, 2021 for PS5 and PC. Expect an Xbox Series X|S release after its timed one-year console exclusivity deal expires.
