Developer Soleil and publisher 110 Industries have released a new trailer for their third-person action game, Wanted: Dead, via IGN, detailing combat mechanics, weapons, skill tree, and tactics that players can utilize during combat.
Starting from the basics of combat, the core gameplay draws inspiration from Dead or Alive and Ninja Gaiden, making its combat more challenging and rewarding than players expect. As seen in the trailer, viewable below, Wanted: Dead relies on players’ expertise to use a set of tools to take down enemies while featuring plenty of hardcore challenges and finishing moves. The game combines hack-and-slash melee combat with shooting, as it requires players to switch between two types at right time. According to the development team, different types of enemies require players to change their play style and use a wide array of weapons.
Soleil assured players that relying on a single type of weapon won’t get them too far, as they need to use both close-quarter ranged weapons throughout the game. As for weapons, players will be equipped with ranged weapons right from the start, and enemies will drop ammunition and secondary weapons that can be equipped by players. That allows players to diversify their weapon set to beat enemies in an old-school way. Players will combine run-and-gun mechanics with sword combat and slide attacks to create electrifying combos. Moreover, they will utilize grenade tossing and takedowns when needed.
Mastering, countering, and blocking enemy attacks are crucial parts of combat. The trailer showcases Hannah’s pistol can be used as a main and secondary weapon in some cases. The developer team claims that pistols and other secondary weapons are essential ingredients to take up their combos when their main weapon runs out of ammo. Players can block enemy attacks with their parry weapon, allowing them to perform finishing moves.
Wanted: Dead features a batch of unlockable skills divided into three categories: offense, defense, and support. Players will spend their points and unlock skills to build their character to their liking, with each division having its own merits and drawbacks.
Wanted Dead will be released for Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam on January 14.
