The metroidvania title Dead Cells have now topped 10 million copies sold. Plans for further updates until at least the end of 2024.
Dead Cells Surpasses 10 Million Units Sold
Developer Motion Twin and Evil Empire are celebrating a new milestone for the Metroidvania title Dead Cells which has now surpassed a massive 10 million units sold. The game which originally debuted in early access in 2017, captivated players with its remarkable blend of both roguelite and Metroidvania genres.
Content, Content, Content
While it was already an outstanding game upon release, the developer Motion Twin went above and beyond in supporting it throughout the early access phase and further. The best part? Most of the additional content provided was completely free. The devs have been generous with providing free updates since launch which has won the community over. The updates have contained new weapons, boss rush mode and even crossover content. That’s a total of 34 free updates and 4 paid DLCs, talk about post-launch content.
With years of successful updates and expansions behind it after taking over live ops of Dead Cells in 2019, the studio is tinkering with its time-tested methodology, experimenting with ideas for future updates and new ways for fans to enjoy one of their favorite roguelikes.

The Future is Now
One of the most recent highlights was the nostalgic Castlevania DLC, and the game’s current developer, Evil Empire, shows no signs of slowing down their efforts. The studio is planning to continue to releasing continue well into 2025. The devs still have ideas up their sleeves for the indie title especially with the roadmap already planned for 2024 according to an interview gameindustry.
Dead Cells The Board Game
The Dead Cells board game has also recently concluded its Kickstarter campaign, and quite well might I add. Not only smashing its original goal of just over $37000 USD but then going on to surpass $1.06 million. The campaign closed last week with a resounding success.
Dead Cells can be enjoyed on multiple platforms, including the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC through both Steam and the Epic Games Store. You can also play it on mobile for iOS and Android. A Playstation 5 version is expected to land on August 11th.
