Working with Yinka Bokinni, Tom Bosworth and Eamonn Holmes, he will attempt to win a potential prize pot worth thousands of pounds.

The actor, singer and dancer’s career dates back to the mid-70s with one of his best-known characters being Cat in the sci-fi comedy series Red Dwarf.

The London-born star’s parents are from Dominica and arrived in the UK aboard the HMT Empire Windrush.

Danny was born in September 1960, making him 62 years old as of 2023.

Before his screen work, he was a dancer in a group called ‘second generation’ and appeared in many West End theatre productions.

He was a member of the original cast of Starlight Express and was keen to continue his theatre work following his exit from Death in Paradise.

He cited this as one of his main reasons for stepping away from the BBC hit crime drama series.

The star said: “I left Death in Paradise because I wanted to get back on stage.

“I needed a bit more razzmatazz in my life, and then along came Strictly!”

He took part in the 2018 series of Strictly Come Dancing and was eliminated in week eight.

One of the star’s latest theatre roles was as Sammy Davis Jr in I’ve Gotta Be Me.

He opened up about one of the downsides to filming Death in Paradise as he would often be away from home for long periods of time.

Speaking to Den of Geek he said: “Being anywhere for six months that’s not your home obviously starts to get a little bit samey.

“Working on TV obviously, every day offers up something different, and of course every couple of weeks we’ve got new guest stars that turn up so you get a sort of injection.

“The only thing that you would obviously suffer with is that you’re not seeing people from home but as far as the work’s concerned, it’s pretty much… it’s a bit like working in Clapham with sun really!”

The Chase Celebrity Special airs on ITV from 8pm.
