CYCLONE takes center stage in next BLACK ADAM prelude one-shot

Last month DC Comics announced a new series of prelude one-shots for the upcoming Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson-starring Black Adam film, focused on the members of the Justice Society appearing in the movie. The first announced one-shot focuses on Aldis Hodge‘s Hawkman, and today The Beat can exclusively reveal details on the next Black Adam prelude one-shot, this one starring one of the JSA’s youngest members, Quintessa Swindell‘s Cyclone.

The new Black Adam – The Justice Society Files: Cyclone #1 one-shot features a main story written by Cavan Scott and illustrated by Maria Laura Sanapo. The Adrianna Tomaz back-up stories featuring the character played by Sarah Shahi in the film also continue in the new one-shot, from writer Bryan Q. Miller and artist Marco Santucci. The issue features a main cover by Kaare Andrews.

Here’s how DC describes Black Adam – The Justice Society Files: Cyclone #1:

When she was young, Maxine Hunkel dreamed of flying with the Justice Society. Now she finally has the powers and the opportunity…but will she say yes? Guest-starring Hawkman on the road to Black Adam!

Plus, continuing the Teth-Adam backup story: trouble hits home for Adrianna Tomaz as Intergang mercenaries invade the hallowed halls of her university, on the hunt for the sacred totem she “liberated”—but what strange metal is the idol made from, and why does Intergang need it so badly?

Created by Geoff Johns and Dale Eaglesham, Cyclone made her first appearance in 2007’s Justice Society of America #1. Cyclone’s alter ego, Maxine Hunkel, is the granddaughter of Ma Hunkel, the original Red Tornado. My fingers are crossed so, so tightly that we’ll get a big-screen appearance from that character in-costume. I think we as a people deserve that.

Along with the announcement of the Cyclone one-shot, DC has also offered an updated look at the Black Adam – The Justice Society Files: Hawkman #1 with full trade dress and placeholder credits:

With Hawkman and Cyclone the stars of the first two announced Black Adam prelude one-shots, that leaves Dr. Fate (Pierce Brosnan) and Atom-Smasher (Noah Centineo) the remaining JSAers who are known to appear in the film for at least two more one-shot specials.

Look for the 48-page Black Adam – The Justice Society Files: Cyclone #1 to arrive in stores and digitally on Tuesday, August 2nd.
