Cyberpunk 2077’s Phantom Liberty Expansion Continues To Be A Huge Success

0

CD Projekt Red has revealed that Cyberpunk 2077’s Phantom Liberty has sold over 4.3 million copies since its release on September 26.

According to CD Projekt Red’s chief financial officer, Piotr Nielubowicz, the Phantom Liberty expansion has a 20% attach rate. This means that one out of every five people who own the base Cyberpunk 2077 game also own the expansion. Right now, the studio is working on the Cyberpunk 2077 Ultimate Edition, which includes both the base game and expansion in one single package, and it’s set to release on December 5.

The Phantom Liberty expansion sold 3 million copies in its first week and it certainly helped the studio overcome the game’s original rough launch three years ago. The game is nominated for Best Narrative and Best Performance for Idris Elba as Solomon Reed at The Game Awards 2023. It’s also nominated for best Community Support and Ongoing Game.

Despite this good news, unfortunately, CD Projekt Red laid off about 10% of its workforce back in July, in an ongoing brutal swath of job cutting that’s been pervasive in the games industry this year.

In GameSpot’s Phantom Liberty review, we said, “Phantom Liberty is Cyberpunk 2077 at its best. CD Projekt Red has taken the lessons from the original release and focused on the parts that mattered most to deliver a thrilling and impactful experience that doesn’t overstay its welcome. And although it fits into the original story, it leaves a lasting impact that rewrote my perception of Cyberpunk’s world.”

GameSpot also published a new documentary about Cyberpunk 2077’s turnaround, so be sure to check it out.
